A group from Georgetown College arrived last week to help deepen Cumbre Alta’s connections to the local community. San Francisco is the community that we have partnered with, who will allow us to use their field in exchange for helping them maintain and improve the field along with providing additional people resources to the community.
The group was composed of 9 women and 1 gentleman. Our intern, Andrew, and a couple who usually is working with an orphanage in a province 8 hours away who were in Quito working on their visa paperwork joined the team as well. Gustavo Cadena, the Director of Inca Link Ecuador was their fearless leader. I (Nate) joined in on the fun with Eden and Canaan “helping” as well.
The group helped in the mornings with a local preschool and in the afternoons we gave them paint brushes and shovels and put them to work. They were tasked with stripping down and repainting the disheveled looking playground next to the preschool. They also dug a drainage ditch for the soccer field, painted the goal posts, and repainted over graffiti covered walls surrounding the field (yes, teenagers with cans of spray paint waiting for white walls to tag are going to thank us).
The work was sorely needed and we are so grateful for their generosity with their time and efforts. But more importantly, as a club, we were able to make a bold statement to the community through their efforts. We let San Francisco de Pinsha know that we are here. We are diving in. We want to be an integral part of your community. We are here to share life with you. Through our lives, our conversations, our work we want to share Christ with you. We want to walk along side you as we grow together in our relationships with Christ. Whatever your next step with Christ is, whatever our next step with Christ is…we will do it together.
I’m the founder of Casa Deportiva Cumbre Alta and an Inca Link missionary. If you have questions about CDCA and are interested in partnering with this ministry, I would love to talk with you. Please, fill out this contact form so that we can get in touch.
