You Fill My Heart With Wonder

Over and over
You fill my heart with wonder
You take me by surprise
I can’t believe my eyes
Wider and deeper
Just when I think I’ve seen you
Like a stone thrown into the ocean water
I could search your depths
And never hit rock bottom

-Rock Bottom, Jimmy Needham

That is the anthem of my life this past year. Over and over again I’ve seen God’s love poured out on me. I just don’t understand why. I’ve continued to make a mess of things and He simply continues to love me and be patient with me.

I decided last summer that I was going to stay

in Ecuador for Christmas 2014. I soon regretted that decision. I thought about how I wouldn’t get to smell a real Christmas tree or feel the cold. I was sad about missing out on time with my family. I started to just dread Christmas. Yet in my moodiness God’s goodness never changed! His love for me as not only his creation but his precious child continued to surround me. And guess what?! I had a wonderful Christmas! God filled almost every moment with a friend or an adventure. I smelled a real Christmas tree, faced the cold, and even spent time with a precious family.

New Years Eve was a blast too! (Literally) I absolutely love fireworks! The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays not only because you get to eat hotdogs but the fact of sitting outside and watching the sky light up. This New Years Eve was something I had never experienced. It put the 4th of July to shame! A large group of us were on a friend’s roof and all over the city were fireworks; hundreds of them. The city looked like magic. We lit roman candles, sparklers, and set a paper man on fire (An Ecuadorian tradition). God exceeded my expectations… But let’s be honest He does that everyday.

So here I am starting off the new year trying to get my ducks in a row. Who knows what this year will bring but I’m excited! The word I’m choosing to cling to this year is anticipation. I’m anticipating God to show up in big ways. I have no clue what this year holds but I know that it sure has started out great! Can’t wait to see what God has for me!
